Two SOS Malta volunteers yesterday left for the camps at the Libyan border with Tunisia to provide first aid and assist in emergency hygiene and sanitation.

Nurse David Grech and Jeffrey Bonnici, a doctor, will be working closely with Dr Nejib Karoui, who runs an organisation called Association de l’Entraide et de la Solidarité Sociale.

As people fled the North African country, and the humanitarian need increased, SOS Malta called on the public to help restore hope.

A hygiene kit, including sanitary supplies, towel, comb, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and underwear costs €20.

Donations could be made on the following bank accounts: APS 20000245111, HSBC 006070932050, BOV 40013974950; www.sosmalta.org/donate_now online, or by post at SOS Malta, 10, Triq il-Ward, Sta Venera SVR1640.
