Jackson Lima has signed a two-year contract extension with Sliema Wanderers that will keep him at the club until 2013.

The Brazilian playmaker’s deal was due to run out at the end of the season but Sliema president Steve Abela acted quickly to secure Jackson Lima’s services for another two years.

Sliema’s move to offer Jackson Lima a new two-year deal had the blessing of coach Danilo Doncic who regards the 28-year-old as a key component of his team.

Jackson Lima has been a first-choice player for Sliema since he joined them in the close season after impressing former coach Mark Marlow during a trial.

Doncic, who succeeded Marlow in January, is pleased that Jackson Lima has inked a new two-year deal.

“Jackson Lima is a great asset to the team and I’m glad that he has accepted the club’s offer to sign a new contract,” Doncic told The Sunday Times.

“We want to move forward in the next few seasons and to do that we must keep our best players.

“The decision to award a new deal to Jackson Lima before the end of the season shows that Sliema Wanderers have a vision and a plan for the future.”
