A group of 10 teachers recently attended the International Coordinators’ Training course in Cyprus.
The teachers come from the 10 schools which have been involved in the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms project since the beginning of the scholastic year.
Ministry of Education assistant director Josephine Vassallo also participated in the course, which was hosted by the British Council in Cyprus and the Cypriot educational authorities.
The course aimed to provide the Connecting Classrooms coordinators with project management skills, and to help them discuss and develop the school projects with teachers from other countries. Participants were also given the opportunity to visit Cypriot schools and learn about the country’s educational system.
Connecting Classrooms builds lasting partnerships between groups of schools in over 60 countries. All participating schools work with partner schools on collaborative curriculum projects, which enable students to interact across geographical boundaries to enhance their understanding of each other’s societies, languages and cultures.
The teachers and school leaders also receive professional development, which builds capacity to support international partnerships and to lead the school in an international environment. The schools also become part of a global online community that enables teachers to network with one another in a range of fora.
Maltese schools are working on school projects with Welsh, Cypriot and Ukrainian schools.
The participating schools are:St Aloysius’ College; St Benedict College, Boys’ Secondary, Kirkop; St Clare College, Boys’ Secondary, Gżira; St Edward’s College; St Elias College; St Ignatius College, Girls’ Junior Lyceum, Blata l-Bajda; St Margaret College, Boys’ Secondary in Verdala; Maria Regina College, Girls’ Secondary in Mosta; Maria Regina College, Boys’ Secondary in Mosta; and Stella Maris College.
