A considerable num n the nightlight is connected to the mains socket-outlet.

The national standard plug is the three-pin BS 1363 plug and nightlights with a two-pin connection should be plugged to the mains supply through an adequate adaptor. A mechanical lock should be present between the adaptor and the nightlight plug connection. This adaptor should automatically disconnect itself when the nightlight is detached from the mains so that no live connections are exposed.

The authority advised operators to return unsafe products to suppliers and said legal action could be taken against operators who placed unsafe products on the market.

Unsafe nightlights and non-food products can be reported to the Market Surveillance Directorate within the MSA on 2395 2000.
