63-year-old Albino Borg was conditionally discharged for six months for keeping a cat trap in the yard of his Lija house in April last year.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard how Mr Borg’s neighbours had complained to the animal welfare department because their cats went missing.

Welfare officers searched the area and, based on anonymous information, they searched Mr Borg’s house. They found the trap in his yard and inside there was a rabbit head used as bait and bits of cat fur. No cats were found inside so he was cleared of animal cruelty on lack of evidence.
