Engineer Helga Pizzuto has been elected president of the Malta Federation of Professional Associations during a recent extraordinary general meeting, succeeding Benjamin Rizzo.

Ms Pizzuto is chief technology officer at the Malta Communications Authority and has previously held top posts within the local electronics manufacturing and telecommunications industries.

She has also held the post of head of the Management Efficiency Unit, the government’s in-house consultancy group and provided independent consultancy services for a number of years. Ms Pizzuto was also president of the Chamber of Engineers for four years until 2010. She is married and has a son.

The newly formed council aims to continue to work on the projects in hand, particularly the promotion of the professional card. It will also maintain active participation in relevant discussions at EU level through its affiliation with the European Council of the Liberal Professions.

As part of its programme it intends to continue to identify new areas of common interest where the federation can play an instrumental role and to facilitate the exchange of best practices across the member associations.
