Last weekend, The Captains team took on the Chairman’s outfit in a twenty-over game. The Captains team were looking for their first win.
Ronnie Sacco won the toss and elected to bat first. Dave Borg and Bikram Arora opened the innings. They were going steadily at six runs an over when Borg tried to up the tempo and danced down the pitch to hit the ball, missed and was stumped. He made seven runs.
Arora went on to equal the top score with 21 runs. He scored a six and a four in his innings. Sam Aquilina was the other top scorer, hitting three fours.
Sacco did not trouble the scorers as he was bowled for one run. Derek Ali made a quick 20 runs from 17 balls before being caught.
Robert Krishna (seven runs), Tony Slater (eight) John Rusher (two), Adam Krishna (one) and Nadia Gosney were the other batters who contributed.
The Captains side totalled 110 runs when you add the extras. For the Chairman’s team, Tony Azzopardi was the main wicket taker with three, while Kevin Krishna and Joy Ghoseroy claimed two wickets each and Sarfraz Ali took one.
Chris Naudi and Michael Grima opened the innings for the Chairman’s team. They put on a partnership of 40 runs before Grima was bowled. He made 15 runs, a good effort considering he had not played since 2003.
Naudi went on to top score with 28 runs, including two fours. Richard Rogers managed to hold an end up before being caught for one run. John Grima (13 runs), Javed Shah(10), Ghoseroy (14) and Darren Grech (eight) all managed to get starts but failed to go on to make big scores.
The game situation came to the last over where the Chairman’s team needed 11 runs to win. First ball went for one run, second ball a wide, third ball no score, fourth ball two runs, fifth ball wide, sixth ball wicket (Grech), seventh ball wicket (Slater), eighth ball wide.
This left the Chairman’s team needing three runs to tie and four runs to win. The bowler bowled a wide and the batsmen ran three runs giving the Chairman’s team the victory that put them 3-0 up in the series. For the Captains team, Sacco and Robert Krishna were the main wicket takers with three each and Arora took one.
This weekend, Marsa play new touring team West London in a two-game series.
