The presence of Neil Muscat at the ASA Swimming Time Trials and other meets, local and abroad, brings an air of expectancy as regards records.
The 13-year old is fast making a name for himself as one of the best young talents of local swimming. His 10 age-group records between the 10 to 13 years category attests to this boy’s qualities and stoke versatility in the water.
Coached by former swimmer Gail Rizzo, Neil, a sibling of Nikki Muscat, who herself holds no fewer than 11 individual records in the freestyle, back and butterfly strokes between national and age-group marks, is equally adept at these three strokes, and combines his efforts in the individual medley.
Muscat achieved his latest limit on Saturday afternoon during the ASA Time Trials. His 32.20 in the 50-metre backstroke race improved his own previous best of 33.01 over the distance set in October last year.
The boy holds ‘A’ category records in the one-lap freestyle, backstroke and butterfly races while in the ‘B’ age-group his national limits are in the 50, 100 and 200 metres backstroke and the 100 and 200 metres freestyle.
His two other records in the 12/13 age-group are in the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley.
