Hibs Medsea won the Louis Borg Cup for the third season in a row after they had the better of rivals Depiro McDonald’s 54-42 to complete a 101-94 aggregate victory. Depiro went into yesterday’s match as favourites after winning Friday’s first leg 52-47.

Depiro went into yesterday’s match as favourites after winning Friday’s first leg 52-47. However, Hibs were a transformed team yesterday, dominating their opponents from the outset to surge to a 21-17 lead by the interval. Inspired by the effective play of Lucienne Bezzina and Doreen Micallef, Hibs kept the momentum going after the restart to open a 10-point lead early in the last quarter. As Depiro failed to hit back, Hibs easily preserved their lead to run out comfortable winners and lift the trophy for the sixth time in their history. Depiro’s Antoinette Borg was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points while Maria Desira scored 14 for Hibs.
