Accused of assault after smoking in bar

A man assaulted police officers after being ordered not to smoke in a Paceville nightclub early today, the police alleged in court.

Police Inspector Nikolai Sant told a court that Christian Attard, 28 of Floriana was arrested today at 12.30 a.m. at Havanna club following an incident. He said officers had caught him smoking inside the premises. When they asked for his particulars, he became aggressive and slightly injured one of the officers.

Mr Attard denied assault, disobeying police orders and smoking in a public place.

He was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
