I believe that the Church in Malta can actually gain from the introduction of divorce. Here’s how...

Suppose a Catholic married couple have irreconcilable differences and decide to divorce.

Therefore, once divorced, the couple now have the right to remarry and may have morechildren (or have children for the first time). So more children are born who may be baptised into the Catholic Church.

So the Church may actually increase the number of its faithful, since divorce may produce more children through remarriage.
