Wied Għorof/Wied Merell

Wied Għorof and Wied Merell consist of a relatively short valley system that drains into Il-Qawra area, stretching a distance of approximately 700 metres. It is a tributary of Wied il-Kbir located very close to the inland sea.

This valley system is characterised by a mosaic of vegetation communities including steppic communities in areas characterised by soil cover. Rocky valley-sides are colonised by species of rocky steppe and garigue. Steeper valley-sides are also characterised by the tree spurge.

Mepa scheduled the entire valley systems of Dwejra as an Area of Ecological Importance and Area of High Landscape Value, published via Government Notice No. 37 of 2011, dated January 18.
