Eurail Group GIE were hailed as the most “Sustainable Travel Provider”, for a second consecutive year.

This prestigious title was awarded by the New European Economy Awards 2010, which recognises market leaders for their excellence, achievements and best practices in the international finance and commerce milieu.

The Eurail Group GIE manages and markets the InterRail and Eurail Passes on behalf of its shareholder railways and shipping companies, and consistently aims to educate both business and leisure travellers about the advantages of travelling through Europe by train.

The company offers flexible rail travel throughout Europe, and the InterRail Global Pass covers 30 European countries which gives the pass holder unlimited travel possibilities. Governments are faced with growing environmental concerns and Europeans can enjoy an affordable “green” adventure by having the freedom to discover the 250,000 kilometres of track available for InterRail Pass holders.

Rail travel is also a viable alternative for the European business community because governments are taking a renewed interest in railways by investing money to improve their domestic and international services.

A spokesman for the award said Belgium, forexample, became the first European nation to complete its border-to-border high-speed rail network in December 2009; Spain has an impressive fleet of some of the most modern European trains bridging the distance between Madrid and Barcelona (628 km) in two hours 38 minutes; and Italy offers an impressive 1,000-kilometre high-speed network between Torino and Salerno.
