A man has been fined €2,420 after being convicted on appeal of having driven a mini quad bike in a public road without a licence and insurance cover.

He was also convicted of having driven the quad bike without a crash helmet and of having carried a child on the quad bike, also without a crash helmet.

The court, however, confirmed the judgement of the first court that the accused had not driven in a dangerous manner.

The case happened on March 29 last year in Fort Street, Mosta..

The accused, Fernando Psaila, had originally been convicted by the first court of having had a quad bike in his possession.

The appeals court said it had clearly resulted that the accused had been driving a vehicle which needed to be licensed by the Transport Authority in order to be driven on a public road and that it needed to be covered by an insurance policy
