With the focus solely on this year’s Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), to be held in Lie-chtenstein, preparations of the national sprints relay team began in earnest last September when a series of training camps were held in Malta and Gozo.
Thanks to the MOC-CONI protocol, the Malta Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) and the Maltese Olympic Committee’s Centre of Excellence, the team is now con-ducting another training camp at CONI’s athletics centre in Formia.
A total of 20 athletes and their coaches are gearing up for the relay events.
It is the intention of the MAAA and the MOC to have a full complement of relay squads at the Lie-chtenstein GSSE, including the 4x100m and 4x400m for both males and females.
The first test for the relay teams will come at the Malta International Athletics Meeting in April.
Meanwhile, the winter season wrapped up with yet another good showing by Diane Borg at the European Indoor Championships in Paris. She equalled her seasonal 60m best time of 7.69 seconds.
