Four heads of diplomatic missions in Malta will speak on the ethnic, cultural and linguistic pluralism practised in English-speaking countries in a series of monthly talks starting today and ending in mid-May.
In the talks, organised by the English-Speaking Union of Malta, each ambassador or high commissioner will give their own national perspective, history and cultural experience. They will examine what the four countries have in common as liberal democracies and how each in their own way embraces multiculturalism, pluralism and diversity as the core to their own national concept.
The talks should provide a fascinating insight into how four nations, having English as their common link, have developed historically from common roots to become the great, diverse and advanced nations that they are today and how pluralism in their countries thrives,” a spokesman for the ESU said. The first talk will be delivered by British High Commissioner Louise Stanton at the St James Cavalier Music Room in Valletta today at 6 p.m.
The public is requested to be seated by 5.45 p.m.
Irish Ambassador Jim Hennessy follows on April 14 and Douglas Kmiec, the US Ambassador, will give his talk on May 19.
The series will be concluded on June 16 by Australian High Commissioner Anne Quinane.
