Kind sunny weather contributed to Carnival merriment on the third day of Malta Carnival as the king of Burlesque led the defilè of colourful floats in Valletta and Floriana.

The defilé in Merchants Street and St Anne Street and the Grand Carnival Show, for the first time held outside Valletta near the Tritons Fountain at City Gate in the afternoon, were the highlights of Carnival festivities, yesterday.

The change in the venue for the dancing competitions was necessitated by the City Gate project, work on which is in progress.

St Anne Street was closed to traffic and will be closed again tomorrow between 3 and 11 p.m. in view of the defilé and Grand Finale. Buses have been transferred to the park-and-ride site at Blata l-Bajda.
