Poetry publication celebrates national poet’s anniversary

The first issue this year of the quarterly Versi commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of Dun Karm Psaila, Malta’s national poet.

The Maltese Poets Association celebrates October as the month of Dun Karm Psaila, and co-currently celebrates Poetry Day.

The association expresses its wish that this year the Local Festivities Council will give to our national poet his deserved dues, all the more so with the involvement of all the Maltese literary associations.

Versi dedicates a page to foreign poetry; another two are dedicated to the winning poems in the National Poetry Contest 2010; others to Maltese contemporary poetry (in various languages).

The Contemporary Maltese Poets page is dedicated to the poetess Amanda Busuttil. Versi also offers essays and literary criticism on the element of protest in Maltese poetry for the benefit of students sitting for Sec or Matsec exams.

The publication also features information about news from the world of poetry as well as activities organised by the poetry association.

For a copy or to subscribe to Versi, write to the editor at 9, Springfield, Triq it-Taħħan, Mosta, MST 4215, or e-mail ghaqdapoetimaltin@hotmail.com.
