A three-day workshop on actor training with Italian actor and director Domenico Castaldo will be held from tomorrow until Wednesday.
The workshop is being organised by the Theatre Studies Division within the Mediterranean Institute at the University of Malta.
‘Musicalised Dramaturgies’ is a workshop structure designed around an ongoing research project conducted by Mario Frendo (currently academic coordinator of Theatre Studies at the University of Malta) in collaboration with Domenico Castaldo.
The research looks at the possibilities of musicalisation as a process for the construction of theatrical performance, and musicalised activity undertaken by the actors within a postdramatic context.
The interdisciplinary workshop presented here focuses particularly on how musicality in theatrical performance is embodied by the performer rather than only serving as sonorous background to action.
The workshop sessions will be held at the MITP Theatre in St Christopher Street, Valletta tomorrow from 9 to noon, Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Participation for the workshop is free. Anyone interested in participating is requested to e-mail Mario Frendo at mario.frendo@um.edu.mt.
