More than 4,000 applications were sent in for 920 jobs offered by bus operator Arriva, which has decided to stop accepting more applications for the time being.

The company, which will take over the reformed public transport service on July 3, said there was an “excellent response” with 4,300 applications submitted until February online and by mail. Its recruitment teams will evaluate all applications for driving and operational support – where more than 700 people will be employed – engineering, management and professional, support and administrative positions.

Arriva managing director Keith Bastow said the company was extremely satisfied with the high level of interest and applications it received.

“We are evaluating all applications and interviewing the most promising candidates to ensure the best people are employed to deliver first class bus services. We will launch a second round of applications for any posts not filled in due course.”
