The Arabic Culture Information Society has launched an aid campaign aimed at the thousands of people stuck on the Tunisian and Egyptian borders.

Society president Sanaa El-Nahhal called on the public “to help as much as they can” by donating medicine, blankets and quilts, canned food and powdered milk for children.

She will fly with the items collected “as soon as possible because help is needed now”.

Ms El-Nahhal, a Universal Peace Federation ambassador for peace, had organised four similar campaigns for Palestine, “thanks to the help of the generous people of Malta”.

The University Students’ Council (KSU) is working hand in hand with the society by encouraging donations.

Donations are being collected at the KSU office at the University of Malta or the society’s centre, 3, Feliċ Borg Street, San Ġwann.

Ms El-Nahhal can be reached on 7700 3845 or [email protected].

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech has also joined in the collective call for help. In a circular, he proposed the money put aside on Ash Wednesday should be pooled in with the funds collected by the Catholic Church to help those who fell victim to the upheaval in Libya.
