Local karting sensation Gianluca Dingli shared his ever growing experience in the go-karting world during a training session organised by Il-Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s.

In light of his recent international winning performances, and embracing a professional attitude that belies his age, 16, Dingli explained not only technical tips but also offered encouragement to pursue one’s dreams.

The KMS Skolasport provides the necessary introductory basics to this discipline, every Saturday morning at the Ta’ Qali Badger Karting Raceway under the tuition of Edwin Gauci.

Karting, according to F1 great, the late Ayrton Senna, is “the purest form of motor sports” and is a fast growing form of motor sports discipline in Malta.

Karting is commonly considered as the fundamental stepping stone to the higher ranks of motorsports. The beauty of karting lies within the seemingly simple nature of these vehicles: no suspension, no differential, no roll-bars. Just four wheels and an engine with a single purpose – to reach the finish line first!

“This simplicity is what got me into this sport, yet there are more complex mechanisms that develop in accordance to the level of competition,” Dingli said. “Karting is considered the first step in any serious racer’s career.

“It can prepare the driver for high-speed wheel-to-wheel racing by helping develop quick reflexes, precision car control, and decision-making skills. It is almost like chess: Learning the rules is simple; mastering the game can take a lifetime.”

The fact that this sports is held in a safe and professional environment, thanks to KMS Skolasport and its sponsor Kellogg’s, provides an ideal platform for learning the basics about competition racing, vehicle set-up and engine tuning. All of this while having fun in a friendly environment.
