Carnival festivities got under way this evening – at the Valletta Bus Terminus.

The works in Freedom Square meant that carnival this year had to move and the venue agreed upon was the terminus.

Dancers in a plethora of colours competed near the Triton Fountain following a carnival defile along the main streets of Valletta.

The festivities continue until Tuesday with the highlights being children’s carnival at the terminus tomorrow morning, a parade and dancing in the main streets and square of Valletta on Monday and Tuesday morning and a carnival costume competition in St George’s Square, Valletta, on Tuesday morning.

Bus Transport Arrangements on Sunday

Between 5.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Buses will proceed with the current route being taken that is;

Alighting of passengers at Sarria Road Board any passengers that would want to proceed with outward journeys and carry to temporary terminus at Park & Ride Passengers will board buses to their respective destinations

Due to the volume of passengers between 6 and 11 p.m.

Buses will operate to and from their destinations to the Temporary Bus Terminus at the Park and Ride. Mini vans will transport passengers between the temporary terminus and Sarria Road and back.

Buses from the South

Buses coming from the South will enter the temporary bus terminus from Triq Nazzjonali from the traffic lights. They will enter the new Park & Ride area (in front of the Suzuki Show Room) skipping the Bombi Stage.

Buses from the North

Buses coming from the North will proceed through Triq l-Indipendenza, under the fly-over and enter the Park and Ride terminus.

Passengers proceeding to Valletta will board mini vans that will drop them off at Sarria Road through Piazza ES Tonna. Exit will be through The Mall and down Piazza ES Tonna.

Passengers leaving Valletta

Passengers wishing to proceed to any destination should board the mini vans from Sarria Road and will be ferried to the temporary bus terminus at the Park and Ride where they will proceed with their journey.

Mini Bus traffic Arrangements

Piazza ES Tonna will operate a two-way traffic arrangement for mini vans after 5.30 p.m.

Private Transport arrangements to Valletta

People entering Valletta by car on Sunday between 1 and 10 p.m. and on Tuesday between 3 and 11 p.m. must enter Valletta through the Valletta Waterfront as St Anne Street will be closed.
