A man accused of having assaulted a warden pleaded not guilty today and was granted bail.

Marius Camilleri, 50 of Qormi , denied having punched warden Stephen Cassar in the face in an incident in Qormi on February 23.

The incident is alleged to have started after Mr Camilleri drove the wrong way.

The accused denied break the warden's sunglasses, assaulting a public officer, swearing in public and relapsing. He also denied committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti granted him bail against a guarantee of €2,000.

Mr Camilleri also has a pending court case after he allegedly assaulted a traffic policeman.
