Two friends posed as visitors to old age homes and stole valuables from elderly residents, a court heard yesterday.

Alan Apap, 24 of Fgura and Christan Urry, 21, of Paola, pleaded not guilty to stealing from elderly people between February 12 and 23. They are accused of robbing two inmates at St Vincent de Paule Residence at Luqa, two residents at the Holy Family Home in Naxxar and a resident of the Cospicua old people’s home.

They are also charged with burgling an apartment in Senglea and relapsing.

Jewellery and other items were stolen from residents, whose ages ranged from 70 to 90, after thieves entered unchecked by posing as visitors, police sources said.

The accused did not request bail because they are about to enter a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Keith Arnaud prosecuted.
