Two classical ballets – Coppelia and Cinderella – will be performed at the the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, Ta’ Qali, in June.
The dances will be performed by The European Ballet and directed by Stanislav Tchassov, the former principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet.
The company is made up of first-class international dancers from Russia, France, Italy, Spain and the UK.
The colourful Coppelia is in three acts, with the musical score by Leo Delibes, choreographed by Stanislav Tchassov. The ballet interweaves the romance between Swanhilda and Franz with the story of the doll-maker Coppelius, whose greatest desire is to create a doll with a soul.
Franz falls in love with Coppelia, whom he thinks is alive. He finally realises she is just a doll and returns to Swanhilda.
In the ballet Cinderella, the titular character defies her vindictive ugly sisters to win the prince’s heart with the help of the fairy godmother, who weaves an eerie magic spell that transforms Cinderella; sweeping her to the splendour of the Royal Ballroom and into the prince’s arms.
The ballet is complemented by Serge Prokofiev’s famous score and intricate costumes and sets.
The ballets will be performed on June 4 and 5. Tickets cost €35 and €40. Double tickets for both performances are available at €60 and €70. This offer is valid until May 31.
Tickets can be bought from the offices of the MFCC, Millennium Stand, Level One, Ta’ Qali; call 2141 0371 or visit www.ticketline.com.mt.
