A thanksgiving Mass will be held today at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, on the occasion of the ordination of Maltese Franciscan Joe Bonello, OFM, of Rabat, as Bishop of the diocese of Juticalpa in Honduras.

The L-Isle Adam Band of Rabat and the Sliema Band will leave from Republic Street at 5.30 p.m. and make their way to St John’s Co-Cathedral, where they will greet Mgr Bonello with the pontifical hymn before entering the cathedral. Mass will be said at 6.30 p.m.

Mgr Bonello spent some of his religious life in the Rabat and Sliema Franciscan convents.

He was born in 1961 and joined the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor in 1977. He was ordained priest in 1985 by former Archbishop Joseph Mercieca.
