On February 22, 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world celebrated World Thinking Day, which this year focused on ‘Empowering girls to change our world’.

The Malta Girl Guides also held a Thinking Day event. The executive director of the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality Romina Bartolo spoke on gender equality in Malta – the low representation in Parliament, no women representatives at the European Parliament and the gender wage gap.

She discussed the important role of Girl Guide leaders to ensure Girl Guides act as agents of change within their communities.

In many countries girls and women do not have the same opportunities as men.

Women are under-represented in the world’s parliaments and in the workforce and earn far less than men.
