St George’s Basilica, Victoria, will pay tribute to the late Bishop Emeritus Nikol Cauchi with a musico-literary evening at the basilica on March 12 at 8 p.m., with the participation of the Laudate Pueri choir and La Stella Band and a requiem Mass led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech together with the collegiate chapter and clergy on March 13 at 11 a.m.
Mgr Cauchi had special ties with St George’s Basilica. On December 8, 1975, he signed the decree Etsi Deus, founding the Collegiate of St George and reserving for him, as diocesan bishop and for his successors, the first dignity in the chapter.
Furthermore, Mgr Cauchi has left a legacy of writings and homilies on St George, including two pastoral letters on two centenaries in 1984 and in 2003.
The commemorative programme is being organised by the historical and cultural committee of St George’s Basilica, in collaboration with the Collegiate Chapter.
A commemorative exhibition and souvenir publication will also be launched.
