Carnival celebrations open in Victoria on Friday with a children’s defilé at 10 a.m., followed by a dance spectacle at Independence Square with the participation of schools. On Saturday at 9.30 a.m., there will be a defilé along Republic Street with the participation of schools, dance companies, floats and grotesques masks.
The Victoria Carnival Festival will be held next Saturday at Independence Square, Victoria, from 7 p.m., with the participation of bands and DJs, carnival floats and dance companies.The festival is being organised by the Victoria council, in collaboration with the Victoria Youth Council.
A defilé along Republic Street, Victoria, with all participating groups, will be held nextSunday at 3.30 p.m., followed by a spectacle by dance companies, floats and grotesques masks atIndependence Square, Victoria,at 4.30 p.m.
On March 8, there will be a defilé with all participating groups along Republic Street, Victoria, at 6 p.m. A grand finale show will be held at Independence Square at 6.30 p.m.
Xagħra
Carnival in Xagħra will be held on Saturday. Traditional re-enactments by the Xagħra Historical Re-enactment Group will be held at Ġnien Xibla Street at 7.30 p.m. and ends at Nazzarenu square.
At 8 p.m., there will be other activities which will include shows by primary schools and dance companies, competitions, Il-Kukkanja and the traditional kumittiva dance. Comic actorJoe Farrugia (id-Dulli) will present a one-hour show. Theactivity will end with a livemusic performance by Synergie.
Nadur
In Nadur a carnival programme will be held at St Peter and St Paul Square today at 1p.m., followed by the Kukkanja.
A children’s carnival will be held at Nadur primary school on Friday.
A spontaneous carnival will take place after sunset along December 13 Street from Friday to March 8.
Xewkija
In Xewkija, carnival will be celebrated between Friday and next Sunday. A carnival evening will be held at the parish centre on Friday at 6.30 p.m. A best costume competition will also be held.
On Saturday there will be a carnival programme in Triq San Bert, followed by a variety programme at St John the Baptist Square at 6 p.m.
Next Sunday there will be a defilé with the participation of the Precursor Band, starting from Triq Ta’ Ġokk (near Castelvenere garden) at 10 a.m., ending at Triq Ħamrija (near the primary school), followed by the Kukkanja.
A spontaneous carnival will be held daily between Friday and March 8 from 8 p.m. in Triq il-Kbira.
Kerċem
Carnival in Kerċem will be celebrated on Wednesday. The activities, organised by the local council, will start at 6.30 p.m. with a defilé from near the parish centre in Triq l-Avukat Anton Calleja and ends at PjazzaOrvieto. Taking part will be the St Gregory Band of Kerċem and various dance companies.
A carnival programme, including dance, comedy and costume competitions, will be held atOrvieto Square at 7.15 p.m.
