The University is holding an open week entitled ‘Discover University’ from March 14 to 19 and is inviting visitors to take part in a range of activities to entertain and inform themselves about what goes on within the campus.

The invitation is open to all – young people and adults, alumni and prospective students, friends and families of current students and staff, and the public.

‘Discover University’ opening times are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Daytime visits are being offered to schools, while the public is invited to visit during the afternoons and evenings and in particular on the morning of March 19.

The open week will showcase the University’s many facets, including its courses, research, faculties, departments, institutes, and centres, Junior College, student life, sports, cultural activities, the library, administration, alumni, the Malta University Holding Company and the Malta University Press.

State-of-the-art laboratories will be open for viewing, ranging from those in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Mater Dei (used for the Communication Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and other courses) to those of the Faculty of Engineering, and the language interpretation laboratories.

There will be exhibitions, talks, presentations and demonstrations related to sports, music, science and the arts and a ‘Meet a Maltese author’ session at the Library, among other events.

Seismology, sustainable mob- ility, Maltese shallow water marine habitats, high performance computing at the University, and the Maltese economy are just some of the topics of the presentations.

There will be treasure hunts during the week and on Saturday morning, an hourly campus tours with stops in key areas, and a video-conference session with Gozo.

Performances by students of Degree plus, music, dance and theatre studies will be held at various times during the week.

A concert will be held on March 15 at Junior College, an Irish and Celtic music will be performed on March 16, while a concert by Nafra and Big Band Brothers will be held on March 18.

Malta University Press is holding a mega sale of its books.

The canteen facilities on campus will be available to all, and throughout the week visitors will be able to use Wi-fi provided by the University IT Services.

An 18th century lunch will be held at the canteen on March 19 at 1 p.m., bringing the week of activities to its close.

Guests are also welcome to visit the original University campus in Valletta and the Gozo campus in Xewkija, where two new halls are due to be inaugurated.

The University Students Council and Middlesea Insurance plc are supporting the week of events.
