A series of short courses entitled ‘Rediscovering the Baroque Legacy’ starts on March 21, organised by the University’s International Institute for Baroque Studies in collaboration with Malta University Holding Co. (MUHC) Ltd. The short courses are:
• ‘The art of war in the Baroque age: cannon, fortifications and military engineering practice in Malta, 1530 to 1798’, from March 21 to 26;
• ‘The art and science of fortress building in Baroque Malta’, from April 25 to 30;
• ‘The French connection: French military engineers in Baroque Malta’, from May 9 to 14;
• ‘The Hospitaller war machine in the Baroque age’, from May 23 to 28;
• ‘Warfare scenarios in Baroque art’, from June 3 to 11;
• ‘Baroque palaces, churches and gardens’, from October 10 to 15;
• ‘The documentation of Baroque buildings and monuments’, from October 17 -21;
• ‘Exploring the stone fabric of Baroque architecture’, from October 28 to November 5;
• ‘Jesuits, geometry and fortresses in the Baroque age’, from November14 to 19;
• ‘The conservation of the Baroque architecture of the Maltese islands’, from November 28 to December 3; and
• ‘The use of lime mortars in Baroque buildings’, from December 6 to 10.
All lectures will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. in the Le Roi Soleil lecture hall, room 307, Architecture Building, at the Msida campus.
Participants will receive a certificate for each course attended.
