The Malta Association of Family Enterprises was officially launched at the third annual Malta Family Business Conference earlier this month.
Its founding members – Pier Luca Demajo, Angelo Xuereb, Doris Sammut, Jean-Philippe Chetcuti and Mario Duca – said the association’s establishment was another step towards ensuring the needs of the family business community were met and understood.
This year’s conference, organised by FBS2M Family Business Solutions in collaboration with the Scottish Family Business Association, focused on the necessity for firms to plan strategically to deal with the challenges of intergenerational conflicts. FBS2M Family Business Solutions managing director and consultant Mario Duca said around 85 per cent of Maltese companies were family-owned or run and the islands’ wealth was heavily reliant on the sector’s wellbeing.
Foreign speakers included Family Business Solutions Scotland managing partner Ken McCracken, Scottish Family Business Association chief executive Martin Stepek, and Fisher Renkert LLC president Amelia Renkert-Thomas.
Green Skip Group’s Doris Sammut and AX Holdings’ founder Angelo Xuereb related personal experiences of their own family businesses.
