The traditional 10km race at Attard attracted a record entry earlier this month.

Attard Athletics Club, the organisers of the pre-Malta Marathon race in their locality, said in a statement that 200 runners were on the starting line on February 13. The winners on the day were Jason Martin and Angela Sammut.

In the men’s race, Martin finished ahead of Gerald Grech, Johann Galea, Drew Lang, Keith Galea and Rodney Cassar. Veteran Carmen Hili was second behind Sammut in the women’s race while Rita Galea placed third.

Various sponsors and volunteers gave their contribution to the successful staging of the race, held under the auspices of Athletics Malta and the marshalling of the Police Force and the Attard Scouts Group.

Attard Athletics Club also held a 10k walk and a two-kilometre fun run on race day. Funds collected from these two activities were donated to Special Olympics Kids.

The presentation was made by club president George Farrugia and Local Council vice mayor Stefan Cordina to Anna Calleja, of Special Olympics.

Meanwhile, the club confirmed that the next Attard 10K will be held in September. One may obtain more details by phoning 7959-3168 or the local council on 21-411111.
