Sweeden shies away when it comes to burden sharing of asylum seekers. Why should the Swedish government expect us to help with the repatriation of Swedish citizens. He or she is not coming to discuss matters related to Maltese citizens. Why should we be bothered with matters related to Swedish citizens. Let them go it alone. We did not seek the Swedish government help to care about our citizens in Libya.

Perhaps while he is here, Minister Bildt will explain to us why his government is hounding Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on behalf of the US government.

Sweden’s Interior Minister Johan Bilstrom said that when last year Sweden received 32,000 asylum seekers and “We did not call upon anyone to share the burden with us,” he said in a direct snub to Malta and Italy

I am sure that our really Honourable Minister is more than up to bringing up the matter - of burden sharing.
The art of politics is about perseverance and persuasion - through diplomatic means and chanells.
We will also get other members of EU to come our way on this point. The late Guido Demarco not only would say this - but also put it into pracitce both in the local and international scene.
The turmoil - may be a blessing in disguise for our plight. A solution will be arrived at - whilst respecting our international obligations and human rights.

Good news - so it is ok for us to help Sweden to get Swedish workers out of Libya, but it is not ok for Sweden to help in burden sharing.
I wonder what our Tonio Borg will be telling him this afternoon but i do hope that his proverbial phrase 'its a pleasure yet to come' is made to good use...the pleasure of giving this viking a good piece of your mind has been served on a silver plate dear Minister...

The only way to get out from this mess is to ignore the Dublin 2 treaty and allow immigrants to go to the North. Once we do that, the EU that counts will start tackling this problem more fairly.
Unfortunately our politicians see the EU as a sacred cow.
