Printing press neighbour becomes news
A man who could not sleep due to a persistent noise coming from next door, a printing press, was given a suspended jail term yesterday after he damaged three cars in an act of revenge. Andrew Spiteri, 61, of Luqa had been putting up with the noise coming from Miller printing press for three years, defence lawyer Toni Abela told the court. He said his client basically had a printing press be-hind his headboard and this was causing him a lot of stress.
Mr Spiteri admitted to causing €3,000 in damage to three cars belonging to printing press employees on February 9 and 15. Magistrate Gabriella Vella handed down an 18-month jail term suspended for four years after taking into consideration the fact that he pleaded guilty at an early stage of the proceedings and pledged to pay for the damage.
Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.

i am not going to defend mr spiteri but i think a man has his limits too. the printing press in question is causing a great niusanse to us residents, employers parking everywhere even on reserved residents zones. trailers are left in the middle of the road all day long most of the times parked on the stop sign leading to a main road thus endangering drivers. Police actions are inexisent and to be honest i am fed up of reporting these illegalities and they never show up!!!!

While taking the law into your hands is never an option, it is amazing how money can get away with it. Goodness knows what having a machine running against your headboard did to this man. Yet there is no mention of anything illegal on the company's side. What chance for the ordinary citizen to obtain justice?

It's not right to take revenge on employees cars, but how can the authorities allow a printing and bars, restaurants, take-aways and other noisy and smelly places to operate in built-up areas? Why should e.g. take-aways be allowed in built-up areas where the whole street reeks with the smell of cooking and oil and all the residents clothing, curtain, furniture etc reeks of frying oil? Why should neighbours have to suffer the noises and smells from bars and restaurants? I think that the action of this person is going to be repeated many times over by others if the authorities do not revoke all such licenses from built-up areas.
