A man charged with sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl was this morning cleared by the courts after doubts were raised on the girl’s credibility.
Colin Mifsud, 46, of Sliema, was charged sexually harassing the girl. He denied the allegations and presented a number of SMSes to prove he was a close friend of the girl.
Magistrate Edwina Grima noted that although the prosecution had produced two other girls who testified that the accused had sexually harassed them, the court could not take them into consideration as he was not charged with harassing them.
The girl had not complained about the man’s behaviour and only made the accusations once her boyfriend’s father turned up at work and confronted them both, after someone had told her boyfriend about their close relationship.
The magistrate noted that on one incident the accused had even accompanied the girl to St Phillips hospital for a medical appointment after they had finished their shifts together.
