I would like to draw the public’s attention to the pitiful condition of one of the two national squash courts at the National Sports Complex in Msida. I have been using the court for a number of years and during this span of time it has never seen some form of maintenance or upkeep. Many complaints have been forwarded to the management, however, so far, they have always fallen on deaf ears. It seems that the management is much more interested in keeping the yard booked than to freeze bookings for a while in order to allow some time for repairs.
What is worrying about this situation is the fact that the more time passes the worse the condition of the court becomes. The wall which is essential to this kind of sport is impossible to play on and yet no one bothered to try to plaster it or at least give it a coat of paint in recent memory. In addition to that the ventilation units are still attached to the wall because of some divine intervention which might not last long. Ironically the court is littered (quite literally) with posters advising players to keep tidy. I guess that it is true that there are two weights and two measures for everything in life. Maybe “tidy” should be interpreted differently over there.
Sarcasm apart, the players using this court would really appreciate those in charge taking action and allow us to practise our sport in a nice, clean environment or at least in a decent one.
