EC English Language Centres, the Malta-headquartered TEFL group, has opened a school in Bristol, chairman Andrew Mangion announced yesterday.

EC has also officially inaugurated a new school building in Brighton.

The group now has 10 adult centres and six junior centres in four countries and three continents, from New York to Cape Town to London. Last year, the group trained more than 25,000 students from 100 countries. EC employs more than 800 people around the world, almost half of whom at the head office and local school.

Mr Mangion yesterday discussed the company’s growth with Finance Minister Tonio Fenech who visited EC’s school in St Julians and attributed the group’s successful expansion to the EC team.

“We are constantly on the lookout for new talent as we look forward to continued growth,” Mr Mangion added.

Mr Fenech expressed his admiration for entrepreneurs like Mr Mangion who internationalised their business. He said EC had become witness to the spirit of entrepreneurship Malta’s economy was based on.

“This is entrepreneurship: a belief in one’s capabilities and the ability to translate an idea and a vision into reality and being able to continually assess it and learn how to improve on it. This is a true success story – growing from a domestic-based teaching institution into a global player in its respective market,” Mr Fenech said.
