CareMalta, the largest private care provider for the elderly, has announced the launch of its family policy which will see the introduction of various family-friendly measures within the group. CareMalta operates seven homes caring for almost 1,000 elderly residents, with a staff-compliment for over 550 professionals
Natalie Briffa Farrugia, CEO of CareMalta, said the new policy is aimed at striking a better work-life balance: “CareMalta believes that our employees are central to the success of the organisation and we recognise the importance of supporting them as much as possible, by offering them the possibility of benefitting from numerous measures that will help them to strike a healthy work-life balance. This is an important milestone for the company. The objective is to ensure that our 500 employees achieve a greater work-life balance”
Ms Briffa Farrugia explained that the measures being proposed would enable CareMalta’s staff to balance their work-related priorities with their own private priorities, including parental and other caring responsibilities, lifelong learning opportunities, leisure activities and other interests.
“Bearing in mind our employees’ needs , we are launching a number of measures aimed at creating this balance. We believe that such measures will not only be beneficial to our employees but also to the company, which very much depends on its human resources to live up to the challenges ahead,” she said.
As part of this policy, CareMalta will be launching various measures including flexitime, special family leave, childcare facilities, career breaks and even the opportunity to bring elderly parents to the residential home within which they work during working hours and make use of the facilities on offer.
CareMalta will also be providing up to an additional three months of parental leave over and above what is provided for by law and this option is also being extended for those employees who care for their elderly parents.
“As a company, we are already taking a number of measures as a result of our recent shift towards being more family-friendly. We have already introduced the Bring Your Child to Work Day and we organise Family Day each year as well,” added Ms Briffa Farrugia. “We are confident that this policy will help attract the best people around to work with us thus helping us remain leaders in care in our country.”
