Team Greens make it five in a row at time-trial

The 2010 cycling season continued last Sunday with a team time-trial event along the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq coast road. Hosted by Greens Cycling Club, the race was sponsored by Greens Supermarket and BBB Bike Parts.

Teams of four riders each were set off at two-minute intervals to cover a distance of 40km. The leading clubs fielded their best riders and the competition was indeed tight.

In the end, Team Greens again showed they boast the best riders in the speciality as their first team, composed of Etienne Bonello, Fabio Spiteri, Jason Vella and Christopher Gatt, stopped the clock on 56:59, winning the challenge for the fifth time running.

Maurice Formosa, Patrick Scicluna, Christian Formosa and Pierre Borg, representing Melita Pedal Power, were second in 57:35. Qormi Scott, with Jack Schiavone, David Galea, Louise Debono Vella and Paul Zarb in their ranks, were third in 59:03.

Team Greens also claimed the honours in individual races for masters and women with Joseph Bonello and Marie Claire Aquilina winning their respective categories. Twanny Pisani, of Mosta AF Sign Studio, won the race for Over 50 riders.

The U-15 honours went to Nina Zammit and Carl Xuereb.
