General Soft Drinks Co Ltd, through its brand Powerade, will be awarding the first Maltese runner to finish this year’s Land Rover Malta Marathon with the chance to participate in the 2011 Athens Classic Marathon.

Powerade will cover the cost of flights, hotel accommodation and the participation fee. The Athens race will be held on November 13.

The 26th edition of the Malta Marathon will be run on Sunday.

Last week, the organisers said they had a record registration of more than 2,200 for the marathon, half marathon and the walkathon which was first introduced last year.

The marathon will cover the distance of 42.2 kilometres and starts from outside Mdina Gate at 8 a.m. The finish line is at Sliema Ferries.

The Malta Hospice Movement has been selected as the Official Charity.
