The survey of 1,117 adults found that almost a quarter (23 per cent) listen to music on the way to work to relax before the day ahead.
Three-quarters of employees (74 per cent) listen to their favourite songs while commuting to work, with half (52 per cent) feeling energised for the day ahead as a result.
The poll by mental health charity Mind found listening to music also had an impact directly in the workplace, with 36 per cent saying it improved the working environment.
A third (32 per cent) said it boosted morale, while a quarter (26 per cent) said it reduced stress and disagreements.
More than seven in 10 (72 per cent) wanted to “whistle while they work” and listen to their favourite bands at their desks.
Nearly one in five (18 per cent) claimed it would make them more productive.
Around half of UK workplaces (52 per cent) allow their employees to listen to music once they’ve clocked-in, the poll found.
