Obituary
BUTTIGIEG. On February 19, FRANS, aged 85, of Żejtun, ex-assistant headmaster of Luqa school, residing at Żejtun home, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Mary, his cousin Anna Gafà (who took care of him) and her children Paul and his wife Lorraine, Michael and his wife Amanda, and Lara-Ann, brothers and sisters Tessie, widow of Joe, Leli, Annie and her husband Michael, Nina and her husband Tony, his in-laws Ġużi and his wife Maggie (who live in Australia), and Peter (who lives in Canada), his friends at Żejtun home, especially the staff, nephews and nieces and friends. The funeral leaves Żejtun home today at 3.30 p.m. for St Catherine parish church, Żejtun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.45 p.m., followed by interment at St Gregory cemetery, Żejtun. No flowers by request but donations to Dar Nazzareth, Żejtun, will be appreciated.
DEMICOLI. On February 18, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIA CONSIGLIA, aged 61, of Valletta, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Anthony, her son Randolph and his girlfriend Melissa, her daughter Sylvana Marie and her fiancé Colin, her grandchild Jake Ferdinand, her brothers and sister, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends, especially her brothers and sisters of the first community of the Neo-Cate-chumenal Way of Guardamangia. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.15 p.m. for St Paul’s Shipwreck church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
GAUCI. On February 20, at his residence, JOHN of Kalkara and residing in Cospicua, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Rita, his daughter Josephine and her husband Alfio Schembri, his grandson Keith and his wife Josette, his great-granddaughters Giuliana and Francesca, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m., for our Lady of the Immaculate Conception collegiate church in Cospicua, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
PUGLISEVICH. On February 20, AUSTIN, aged 72 of Msida, ex-football referee, passed away suddenly, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Marlene, his daughters Rosanne and Sharon, his grandchildren Lara, Marc and Matthew, his brothers, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
SERRA. On February 19, JACK, of Sta Venera, aged 104, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his son Alfred and his wife Marie, his daughters Lilian, Josephine, Julienne and Margaret, his sons-in-law Ronnie, Antonio, Aldo, Sario and Tony, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-law and their families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be held at 9.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Marija Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
SPITERI. On February 18, at Gozo General Hospital, Fr EMMANUEL, aged 77 of Sannat, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his sisters and brother, Margaret, Carmel and Stella, their families, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He is also mourned by the archpriest, clergy and Sannat parishioners. The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital tomorrow at 3.15 p.m. for St Margaret parish church where Mass praesente cadavere, presided by Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, will be said at 4 p.m. followed by interment at Sannat Cemetry. Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosover liveth and believeth in me shall never die.’ (JOHN II: 25-26)

Between 8.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. in Fr Ġwann Tabone, Anġlu Grima, War Victims and Id-Dwiemes streets and New Street Dwiemes street, and Ta’ Pizzuta Square in Żejtun.
Between 8.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Mgr Franġisk Xuereb Street in Paola.
Bike marathon raises €32,000
Around €32,000 were collected in the annual Ħamrun Liceo Bike Marathon and donated to Id-Dar Tal-Providenza, adding up to €118,000 in donations to voluntary organisations over the past years.
In last year’s 11th edition, the marathon promoters also donated a number of items to the Hospice Movement including a car, two suction machines, an oxygen concentrator, five wheelchairs, two electric beds and two reclining chairs.
This year’s marathon will be held between March 25 and 27 at the Lyceum, Ħamrun.
Carnival contest
