Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this evening had a meeting at the Auberge de Castille with the major Maltese investors in Libya.

Maltese investment in the North African country runs into many millions of euro including hotels and accommodation for expatriates, infrastructural projects and a hospital.

This evening's meeting discussed the current situation, the safety of the 300 Maltese workers in Libya and how the situation could develop.

No incidents involving Maltese personnel were reported during the day.

Libya has cut off all phone communications and activity at Tripoli airport is getting increasingly chaotic. The Libyan government has also lost control over the eastern side of the country around Benghazi.

It is understood that the prime minister also had a meeting with the Commender of the Armed Forces of Malta and the Commissioner of Police.
