St Paul’s Bay local council has applied to move its offices to the Veċċja area. This is the quietest part of the village but further away from the core of people whom the council members have been elected to serve. It is even further away from those who live in Buġibba and Qawra. A bit further up and they might as well join Mellieħa council.

The question must be: Is this move necessitated because they hope they will get less interruptions or is it in preparation to eventually give Qawra and Buġibba their own district council? The move has been kept under wraps and the change-of-use notice was removed as soon as it was put up.

While all other council offices in Malta and Gozo have been situated in the heart of their towns and villages, St Paul’s Bay council decided to move away from it.

If the public is given to understand there are no suitable premises in the “deserted” Buġibba area, which is in “core” of this district, then someone should have done his homework better.

If the reason is one of economics, then this can only be the biggest form of false economy known to the people they were elected to serve!
