Children at St Benedict College’s Mqabba primary school recently held a successful ‘green walk’ through the streets of the village.

They carried banners and posters promoting less use of cars, walking instead of driving, love for trees, and the ‘Three Rs’ – reduce, reuse, and recycle.

All classes, including the kinder section, took part in the walk, as well as many parents and grandparents.

The event also enabled the members of the Ekoskola committee to display to the local community their recently acquired Green Flag in recognition of their efforts to keep the environment clean and making it more healthy to live in.

The enthusiasm of the children and the strong messages on their banners and posters that we all need to take responsibility for our actions made an impact on passers-by.

The school will shortly be donating an oak tree to the local council to be planted for all to enjoy and as a reminder of the children’s contribution to embellishing their village and the award of the Green Flag.
