Olympic 110 metres hurdles champion Dayron Robles has been forced to cut short his European season due to what appears to be an injury setback, according to Cuban federation officials.
Robles was due to race in five or six European meets to help him prepare for the World Champion-ships in Daegu, South Korea, starting on August 27.
However the 24-year-old record holder has returned home in order to avoid aggravating his problems, which remain unspecified.
Cuban athletics federation official Aurelio Romero said: “Dayron will return to Cuba so as not to aggravate the problem and thus compromise his chances for the London Games in 2012.”
Romero did not specify the nature of Robles’s injury, although groin problems compromised much of his 2010 season.
This season Robles raced in Stuttgart where he crashed into a hurdle. Three days later the Cuban claimed a 60-metre indoor win at Lievin, France.
