Camilleri confirmed as MCRC president

The Malta Canoe Racing Club (MCRC) recently held its Annual General Meeting.

Malta Canoe Federation president Peter Borg Costanzi and treasurer Damian Schembri attended the meeting.

The members of the club’s committee, namely Chris Camilleri, Nicki Borg Costanzi and Ryan Schembri, were re-elected for a second term. Camilleri was confirmed as president, Borg Costanzi as secretary and Schembri as vice-president.

2010 brought many firsts for the club who introduced surf ski’s to the Maltese islands thanks to a generous donation from the Dubai Surf Ski & Kayak club. Camilleri put these to use, being the first Maltese to compete in the Dubai Shamaal in December.

Children’s participation is on the rise after initial sessions were held in conjunction with Stella Maris College last summer. Kayaking was also introduced to the Skolasport programme which is run by Hungarian coach, Kata Pongracz.

The first event on this year’s calendar is a children’s sprint race on March 26. For further information, one may send an email to maltacanoeracingclub@gmail.com.
