Silent city doubles as art students’ ‘classroom’
Appreciating details one tends to take for granted
A fieldwork activity in Mdina led San Andrea School students through the silent city’s winding streets characterised by mediaeval and baroque architecture, which for centuries inspired artists and photographers alike.
Gathered in the shadows of the imposing cathedral in St Paul’s Square, the Form 5 art students were given basic skills about the art of photography and received tips on picture composition.
The students spent the rest of the morning sketching in Bastion Square, with its breathtaking view of the island. The place is frequently visited by tourists and students from other schools on warm sunny days.
This enriching experience led students to appreciate details one tends to take for granted, like the unique traditional door knockers so abundant in many Maltese streets.
